The Sixth Faction by Veronica RothMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
lol not the dummies already trying to tank this book’s rating.
In this house, though?
VRoth gets respect for life.
And with this book, she again earns every ounce. The Divergent we thought we knew has so many small changes - for instance, Caleb and Beatrice are now twins, the simulations are based on new and improved science, and Abnegation is openly in charge of “Memory Vaults” causing controversy among other factions, and Abnegation culture is even more Christian religious trauma heavy than ever.
We also get to see Caleb’s journey through Erudite initiation (that doesn’t change), and even when Beatrice makes a new choice, there are still driving forces guiding her to some of her more iconic ones, such as changing her name to Tris and meeting and falling in love with Four (who also gets significant POV time in this book.)
The ending, though? It’s as heartbreaking as we’ve all come to expect from Roth, especially for the new character death that defines this cliffhanger, leading into next year’s conclusion in The Last Testimony.
